2 hours every Thursday for 6 weeks.

1. Relational skills & emotional intelligence.

Going deeper than traditional communication skills training, this training develops self-awareness and supports you in seeking understanding rather than influence. For teams tackling complex problems, it is vital that they relate to each other with skill - and it starts with the leader.

2. Leaders as facilitators.

Your capacity to hold space for meaningful conversations is key to building confidence and transparency in a team. This session will bring awareness to your own influence during a meeting. We will also learn techniques that create equal talk time - this is a brilliant way to leave power dynamics aside during a conversation.

3. ‘Power over’ Vs ‘power with’.

It’s common to enjoy authority too much, and use it when it is not needed. The opposite is also true, a leader unwilling to hold power can hobble a team. You will learn to hold and then let go of power at the right times.

4. ‘Predict and control’ Vs ‘experiment and learn’.

Borrowing from agile/scrum thinking, you will learn about the fundamental differences between traditionally-run projects that seek to control as many variables as possible, and agile thinking that iterates and improves as new information is learned.

5. Techniques for distributed decision-making.

Decision-making is one of the key touchpoints for how a leader influences and handles power. In this session we will cover the options and techniques that help you to delegate decision-making in areas you choose. This avoids burnout, stops you from becoming a bottleneck, and it allows you to choose when to centralise or distribute decision-making as needs arise.

6. Building habits for healthy culture.

In this session we will cover the routines and practices that support deliberate culture development. Pausing to review and agree “how we want to be” as a team is a meaningful and powerful practice. This prevents unconscious bad habits forming that harm morale over time, and it supports the team to adapt to new challenges or integrate new members when they join.
